Cool Tool Crayons
Description
I have this little fear that my son won't want to play with me in my art studio when he grows up. I don't know why I fear he won't be cool like me and want to color pictures and glue stuff together. I guess it's because I fear that his dad will entice him with sharper and more powerful tools and they'll retire to the basement to play without me. This fear inspired my latest ComposiMold project. I stole a few tools and fasteners from my husband's tool bench, sacrificed my full box of crayons, and melted some ComposiMold! ComposiMold is an eco-friendly, microwaveable, and reusable mold making material. You just melt it in the microwave and pour it over any object you'd like to duplicate. Here's a link to their website to learn more: http://www.ComposiMold.com. Follow the steps below and see just how easy it is! Step by Step: 1. Fasten your tool (or other chosen object) to the bottom of a heat safe container with clay or hot glue. 2. Spray them with a mold release. 3. Pour melted ComposiMold over them by at least 1/2". 4. Let your mold cool until it returns to it's flexible and rubbery consistency. 5. Pull the tools out of the mold. 6. Cool your mold in the freezer for 15 minutes. 7. Spray the empty cavities with mold release. 8. Pour melted crayons into the mold. 9. Let the melted crayons cool in the mold. 10. Carefully pull your Cool Tool Crayons out of the mold. 11. Color! TIPS FOR USING CRAYON'S AS A CASTING MATERIAL: I melted a few different shades of green in a glass jar in the microwave. (I finally have a use for all those empty jars I clean and save.) It took about 3 intervals of 45 seconds with stirring in between. I needed more heat than I thought I would. (Every microwave will be slightly different, of course.) Always put your ComposiMold mold in the freezer for about 15 minutes before pouring any hot casting material. This ensures that it doesn't melt your mold. Be sure to reapply mold release before each new cast is made. I think my tools are cool too, don't you? -Michelle
