Patchwork Photo Mat
Use coordinating fabric scraps, a few Swarovski crystals, and some nostalgic buttons to turn an inexpensive photo mat into a one-of-a-kind designer photo frame. An easy-on-the-pocket design with an expensive decorative appeal.

what to do
(Note: The Creative Textile Tool™ works best when used on a glass mat or surface; be sure work area will not be damaged from heat.)
1 Use masking tape to secure pen holder to work surface. Use pliers to attach and tighten Trowel Point onto pen. Plug in, switch to "on", and allow to heat three to four minutes. (Note: Use caution when working with pen as it is hot. Be sure to use pliers to remove and attach other points.)
2 Cut four 5"x6" rectangles from iron-on adhesive. Use trowel point to fuse adhesive to wrong side of four fabric quarters. Use rotary cutter to cut 4"x5" rectangles from each fused fabric piece.
3 Remove paper backing from iron-on adhesive; press fabric onto frame in pleasing manner; matching up edges and overlapping if necessary. (Note: Use photo as guide.) Press fabric onto inside cut angles of mat; use scissors to score fabric allowing fabric to fold into angles of mat board. Fold excess fabric to back and trim.
4 Using photo as guide, use two different colors of fabric tape to adhere onto frame where fabrics meet, overlapping ends to back.
5 Use pliers to remove trowel point; set aside in safe place to cool. Use pliers to attach Mini Flow Point.
6 Position three crystals onto fabric tape as shown. Heat crystals onto frame by holding point in straight up position; count to eight to secure.
7 For hanger, cut two 12" lengths from ribbon. Glue one end of each length to back top of frame at slight angel, approximately 1-1/2" from side edges. Cut remaining ends in a "V". Tie ribbon in a knot 2" from ends.
8 Use wire cutters to remove shanks from buttons. Glue buttons in pleasing manner onto lower left corner of frame. Let dry overnight.
